Umbrey visits flood damaged areas
ROING, Oct 09: Local MLA Laeta Umbrey today inspected the Inju Nallah, Koronu circle, Inju village, forest plantation area at Simari river site and Rayang village in Lower Dibang Valley district in order to take stock of the damages caused by recent torrential rain.
During the inspection, Umbrey directed all concern departments to work out actual damages and provide relief to the affected people at the earliest. He also advocated for proper implementation of Govt projects and schemes.
At Koronu, the MLA directed concern department for early restoration of electricity, water supply and find out solution to water stagnation problem at Circle office compound and adjacent areas during rainy season.
At Rayang village, the MLA along with Govt officers and affected land owners visited land erosion areas and took stock of crop damages. The MLA also assured the team members to approach the higher authority for adequate fund for flood damaged restoration work.

Diversion of ration sorties aggravates food crisis
Meanwhile, Lower Dibang Valley deputy commissioner Garima Gupta today urged the DDST Mohanbari to liaison with Air Force authority to airlift the ration items for flood affected people of Hunli, Desali and other places on priority basis. As per the report from district administration, copter which landed at Roing has air lifted the ration items of BRTF to Etalin yesterday instead of air lifting the ration items meant for civilian to Hunli, Desali and Paglam circles of the Lower Dibang Valley district and Anini, Anili and Malini of Dibang Valley district.

Roing AYC distributes rice to flood affected villagers in LDV

ROING, Oct 09: The Assembly Youth Congress (AYC) of Roing 43rd constituency today distributed food relief in the flood affected areas of Lower Dibang Valley district delivering assistance to nearly 1,000 people.
The beneficiaries were selected after AYC worked with the affected communities to identify the most vulnerable families that needed help. Heavy rains had lashed the region flooding and affecting the whole eastern districts of Arunachal causing shortages of food grains.
“Delivering of food assistance to flood affected people is being carried out to thrust service motive among party workers to work at the grassroots,” said Pinna Kitnal Muklom, General Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC), who was in Roing to take part in AYC’s food assistance programme.
The food, which mainly consisted of rice amounting to 90 quintals were distributed in 200 households in Balek, Rayang, Cheta, Abali, Old Abali, Arango and Iduli village. AYC estimates that food ration distributed is enough to last one month for each household.
As ongoing support to affected people to shore up their losses, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Mukut Mithi and District Zilla Chairperson Chiliko Meto had approved AYC’s humanitarian assistance by providing financial support for today’s food distribution programme, informed Japani Meto, President, AYC, Roing.
According to estimate put up by AYC, Balek received 21 quintals of rice for 41 households including 0.5 quintal for adjacent Simari village. Around noon, the team led by Meto distributed 28 quintals of rice in Abali village, 3 quintals for Old Abali, 13 quintals for Arango and 23 quintals for Iduli village. Later in the afternoon, 2.5 quintals for Cheta and 6 quintals for Rayang, Midland and Agamgite villages were distributed.
The AYC members also visited the houses of the affected people and surveyed the affected sites.
“With many hectares of agriculture fields ruined, infrastructure destroyed and road communication disrupted by flood water, full recovery is a long road ahead,” Muklom told this correspondent. “Meanwhile we will put up our best effort to convey to the government for more assistance as immediate relief measures.”

The book containing 10 selected stories, specially chosen for young readers, edited and brought alive by Vaijayanti Sawant Tonpe, former editor of Children World, with her imaginative Pen has made the book quite reader friendly. The book has 13 illustrations and charming cover page drawn by Indrim Boo, an Arunachalee professional artist working in Delhi.
Appreciating the all out efforts of RIWATCH and congratulating the author, Education Minister said “Books on our traditions, our environment, our neighborhood is the need of the hour. We miss it in our textbooks. We study the other world but remain unaware of our own. Our people know Taj Mahal but do not know about Tawang Monastery”. He insisted, we must bring different aspects of our ethnic life to academic forefront. The State Committee for Research, Education and Training (SCERT) Arunachal has been formed to develop syllabus for schools and the RIWATCH has to play a larger supportive role in this regard, the Minister said.
This book has set a role model in documentation of imagination of a generation of people who lived much before all of us. He also emphasized to bring out a Hindi version of the book for the readers of different strata of the society.
It is the first time, a book of Idu Mishmi folktales is coming out for young readers.

Health awareness cum medical camp at remote Limeking
ITANAGAR, Oct 09: The Catholic Mission Siyum in collaboration with the Rajput Regiment of Indian Army and the GREF organized a health awareness and free medical camp for the frontier villagers of remote Limeking in the Upper Subansiri district on October 7.
Around 150 people of the locality benefited from the medical camp and the awareness progamme.

Affordable power for all households in next five years: PM
NEW DELHI, Oct 09: India plans to provide affordable electricity to all households in the next five years, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today.
"The Government of India aims to provide 24x7 electricity to all households in the country and affordable access to electricity in the next 5 years," he said inaugurating an International Seminar on Energy Access organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and CII here.
Singh also said the government was taking steps to offer cooking gas to all rural households.
At present, around 12 per cent of around 190 million rural households today use LPG to meet their cooking energy needs.
"Giving all the 240 million households in the country an entitlement of six LPG cylinders per year will require only around 25 million tonnes of LPG," Singh said.
"This should be manageable for our country. But, extending distribution network to all villages may take time," he said.
The Prime Minister said the government was working on a mechanism to provide subsidy to targeted individuals so that they can afford to have electricity and LPG.
Singh said that the government is looking to put in place a mechanism where subsidy would be directly transferred to bank accounts of the beneficiary.
He said in one pilot scheme in Mysore district of Karnataka, 27,000 deliveries of subsidised cylinders have been made after successful biometric authentication of any family member present at home.
"In the next phase it is planned to transfer the subsidy amount directly to the bank accounts of bona fide beneficiaries," he said.
Highlighting plans for alternate sources of energy, the Prime Minister said India aimed to light up 20 million rural household by 2022 using solar power.
He said at present renewable power represented about 12 per cent of the total installed generating capacity in India. The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, launched under the aegis of India's National Action Plan on Climate Change, aims to install 20 Gigawatt of grid connected solar power by 2022.
"We hope to light up around 20 million rural households with solar home lighting by 2022," he said, adding that the government looked forward to accelerate the overall deployment of renewable energy in India to achieve around 55 Gigawatt of renewable power by the year 2017.
He said both the government and the industry need to engage in international cooperation on a large scale in the area of energy access.
Additionally, Singh said fuel wood plantations could also be set up within a kilometer of all inhabitations to reduce the burden on women who have to walk long distances to collect fire wood for household use.
Making a strong pitch for universalising access to energy, Singh said favoured innovative institutions, national and local enabling mechanisms, and targeted policies, including appropriate subsidies and financing arrangements.
"The necessary technologies to mitigate the problem are fortunately available. These technologies need to be viewed as global public goods," he said.
Singh said Intellectual Property Regimes applied to energy access technologies should balance rewards for innovators with the need to promote the common good of humankind. PTI

‘No HC in lieu of airport’
ITANAGAR, Oct 09: Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF) and its women’s wing in a joint press statement strongly opposed the proposal for establishment of the High Court at Banderdewa in lieu of Greenfield Airport at Karsignsa but expressed their willingness to donate land for the HC at another place within Banderdewa circle.
“We are not against development initiative by the MLA of Doimukh. But we oppose the construction of the HC in the land which was earlier demarcated for the proposed Airport,” the organization said.
Alleging that one of the women protestors was mercilessly beaten by the Naharlagun SDPO during October 4 capital bandh, the organizations have demanded termination of the SDPO for his alleged illegal act.
They also demanded an apology from OC, Naharlagun for his alleged careless comment against the protestors hurting their sentiment.
While vowing to stick with its original demand for construction of the proposed airfield at Karsingsa, the organizations have threatened to launch vigorous democratic movement if the demands were not met.
NSS unit of DNGC organizes social service
ITANAGAR, Oct 07: National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar has organized a social service at college campus today.
All the NSS volunteers under the guidance of Programme officers Dr. Tumter Lollen and Kumar Tok cleaned the college campus, including the residence of the college Principal by clearing way side weeds, bushes, debris, dirt, etc.

The word Revaluation as we know means "Revalue the quality” but for RGU paper checker it is a kind of business as they get Rs 500 to rechecked every single paper. What I know is that there are intellectual and qualified professor in the university but sometimes I doubt whether the examination papers are checked by them or it is checked by simple staffs of the authority. The worst part is that Revaluation system put many student in deep frustration and depression which myself has gone through. It might also spoil the career of many students as, I think, under the system the paper checkers check the paper blindly. I on behalf of student community would like to know what step the concerned authority would take to put the system straight.

Though, there are numerous facilities available in NH 52A amusement park, the concern
authority claim that they are facing serious fund crunch and hence won’t be able
to maintain it properly and if circumstances persist they may have to shut down the
said amusement park. It would be wrong if citizen don’t do anything to save it from
shutting down. Therefore, like minded citizens discussed length and breadth regarding

Dear Editor,
Many days have passed but Arunachal Pradesh Police is yet to declare results of recently held interview for IRBn and APPbn. All the candidates are anxiously waiting for the results. During interview there were many rumours about seats being bought. But we trust APP and believe that interview was done free and fair. However if there is delay in declaring result, the rumours may again spread and such rumour will only damage the image of Arunachal Pradesh Police. So, I appeal Chief Minister who is also holding additional post of home minister to declare result at the earliest for benefit of all aspiring candidates.

Improve BSNL service
Dear Editor,
I would like to highlights the difficulties faced by the BSNL mobile subscribers due to poor BSNL network service under Raga in Lower Subansiri district.
I do not know whether the same problem is happening in other places in Arunachal Pradesh. The network remains defunct for many days in Raga area. Sometimes, it works for few hours only. Worst sufferers are the students who are studying outside the state and poor patients who are undergoing treatment in other states of the country. I strongly condemned the poor and irresponsible service provided by BSNL staff who are looking after the Raga BSNL tower. If this kind of thing continues at Raga BSNL, the subscribers will have no other option but to approach the Consumers Forum for justice. I also request the higher authorities of BSNL to hand over the charges of SDO Daporijo to SDO Ziro for maintenance of Raga BSNL network as Raga area is nearest to Ziro SDO. I once again request the BSNL authorities to look into the grievances of its subscribers.

Dear Editor,
This is in reference to the article published in your daily titled “Open letter to Banderdewa circle intellectual forum and state Govt.” Here I would like to point out that Gumto was not affected by bandh call given by BCIF. Being Anchal Samiti Member of 13th Gumto Panchayat, I completely trash this statement which was made by chairman Education and cultural development Society,Kimin. It is worth mentioning that few people are trying hard to defame my village i,e, Gumto and my public image. Hence request your concern office to kindly verify the ground reality before going to press. I would also like to inform that Doimukh does not come under Capital Complex and it is not affected by bandh call given by BCIF.
People of Doimukh know if’s and but’s of bandh call given by any organization, therefore do not support unnecessary bandh call which may cause public grievances.

The spread of the unrest has raised concerns about the potential breakdown of the collective bargaining system which has operated for the last 18 years.
